Career Futures was originally founded in 1986 as a private, non-profit organization that is incorporated under State law and whose purpose is not to make a profit, but rather to further to meet employment needs in the community of Butte, Montana. Although Career Futures receives funding from State entities, it is not state controlled and is not owned or operated by the government. Career Futures is registered with the Secretary of State, has By-Laws, a Board of Directors, and a paid Executive Director and staff.

This has since grown to meet the changing demands of the workforce where the Agency has expanded to serve all adults and businesses within Butte and surrounding rural counties.  Many of our services are available in the following counties: Butte-Silver Bow, Deer Lodge, Granite, Powell, Beaverhead, and Southern Jefferson (Whitehall).

Career Futures currently operates the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Pathways Program and has operated the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Work Readiness Component Program (WoRC) between 1996 and 2016 (evolved into the Pathways Program). Career Futures also administers: State Displaced Homemaker Program; and Workforce Investment Opportunities Act Adult (WIOA).

As a member of the Southwest Montana Workforce System – Career Futures, Inc. has partnered with State of Montana Job Service Offices, Office of Public Assistance, Montana Tech, Highlands College of Montana Tech, Butte Community Health Center, Spherion, Express Employment Professionals, Butte-Silver Bow Chamber of Commerce, Butte Local Development Corp,  Anaconda Local Development, Anaconda Chamber of Commerce, Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce, University of Montana—Western, the Montana Apprenticeship & Training Program.
