Outdoor Tourism in Butte, Montana

I’m thrilled the long summer days and warm nights have descended on us in Butte. Quality time can be spent outdoors; hiking, biking, fishing, and floating in the mountains and waterways around Butte. To make the outdoor experience easier to access for our visitor and locals, a map has been produced showing 13 trailheads to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail system, literally minutes from Butte. Fishing access points along the Big Hole River, trails for Maud S. Canyon and Thompson Park along with the most current urban trails are highlighted on this map. Copies of this map are available at the Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Information Center, 1000 George Street.

Bike shuttling and even bike rentals are available through Linked Adventures at 406-593-0071. Owner Gina Evans will set you up for a great day ride, or a short trip into the nearby forests.   For the water enthusiasts; kayaks, paddleboards, pontoons and rafts rentals are available through Outdoor Adventure Rentals call 406-490-1133 or 406-490-0543.

The warm summer evenings allow us to entertain outside. Each Thursday evening through the summer music can be enjoyed during an event sponsored by NorthWestern Energy called “Music on Main.” Music begins at 5pm with the main act beginning at 6pm. Each first Friday of the month local artists showcase their talent during the “Uptown Butte Art Walks”. Beginning on July 20th the first of 3 movies at the Original, sponsored by: Digger Athletics, MT Tech Foundations, BSB Park & Rec, Opportunity Bank and Montana Pro Audio.

Looking ahead to the end of the month over the weekend of July 27-29 is the annual Evel Knievel Days event. This year’s event is targeted toward children’s activities. July 29th marks the 10th anniversary of the Butte 100, where mountain bikers descend on Butte to compete in one of 3 races: The Sorini 25, the 50 and the 100-mile courses. Volunteers are still needed, to sign up please contact Gina at 593-0071.

Recreation abounds in Butte and the hills are beckoning to have you join in the fun.
