To give students a jump start on college, Butte High School now offers 44 dual-credit classes in a partnership with Montana Tech. At $49 a credit, the classes are a steal, says district Curriculum Director Jim O’Neill. The low cost saves parents tuition money, plus it allows students to earn college credit before graduating high school. “We’re hitting all the kids, really,” he says, “kids looking to attend the 4-year or 2-year college route. They get a head start and it gives kids confidence.” Among the class offerings is a technical math class designed for students who want to study the trades, like carpentry, welding or machining at Highlands College of Montana Tech or other two-year colleges. Credits transfer to any Montana University institution.

Courses offered: Intro to Business, Microsoft Excel, Web Page Fundamentals, Welding, Technical Math, Intro to Engineering, Fundamentals of Physics I and II, Spanish, Fundamentals of Construction Tech, College Chemistry I and II, College Algebra and College Writing.
